A Dream Delivered

A Dream Delivered, excerpt

The snow is falling in Five Points, blotting out the downtown skyline and the jagged peaks of the Front Range. Bundled in coats and hats, the patients hurry into the Eastside Family Health Center. They include pregnant women, mothers with young children, middle-aged adults suffering from the flu or a bad cold, and others with chronic diseases like hypertension diabetes or depression. Inside the furnace is pumping out heat but it’s no match for the temperature outside or the size of the building. The patients clutch at coats as they drop off prescriptions or confer with check-in clerks. The waiting rooms fill up and empty, fill up and empty.
